Published: December 5, 2016

AKRON––Brouse McDowell, a leading regional business law firm with offices in Akron, Cleveland and Lorain County, has announced that eight attorneys from Nadler Nadler and Burdman Co., LPA, based in Canfield, Ohio, will be joining the firm.

Nadler lawyers Peter B. Grinstein, Michael A. Gallo, Jay M. Skolnick, Marc S. Stein, Timothy M. Reardon, Edward F. Smith, Kevin L. Bradford, Matthew G. Vansuch, and their staff joined Brouse McDowell Thursday. The Nadler attorneys and staff will continue business as usual, at the Seville Drive, Canfield office. Brouse is pleased to report that the Canfield lease has been extended for an additional five years, and intends to expand the office to accommodate the firm’s clients in the Mahoning Valley and western Pennsylvania.

“We are excited to be partnering with such a well-respected firm in the greater Youngstown area, and are honored that Nadler has invited us to join them in serving the legal needs of businesses in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania,” said Brouse managing partner, Marc Merklin.

Nadler was founded in 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio by Murray, Saul and Charles Nadler and was located in downtown Youngstown until 2013. Nadler continues to represent clients within the city of Youngstown and is committed to its revitalization. Now located in the growing suburb of Canfield – the firm was interested in settling in a central location to best serve its widespread client base.

Serving clients in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys for 100 years, Nadler brings a wealth of experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, manufacturing, real estate and construction. Among Nadler’s clients are financial institutions, steel service centers and extrusion companies as well as beverage distribution, transportation and logistics companies. In addition, Nadler serves health care providers including nursing homes and physician groups, professional services firms, shopping center owners and developers, franchise and restaurant owners and technology companies. Nadler is also well-known for its experience in corporate, estate planning, and commercial law, including a specialty in insolvency, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights law.

Tim Reardon, partner at Nadler, said “Our clients have experienced extraordinary growth, resulting in a demand for services in specialty and sub-specialty areas of the law that we could not fully support. It was crucial for the Nadler Firm to create an allegiance with a firm that held complementary disciplines, clients and culture – and we found that combination in Brouse McDowell.”

The strategic alliance between Brouse and Nadler accomplishes several important goals: an ability to offer clients greater support geographically, or in areas of the law that were not possible prior to the combination, particularly in the health care, technology and intellectual property industries. With similar backstories of handshake deals on the sidewalk in the 1920s, the firms saw parallels that resonated. Common business practices and character traits, such as an enduring commitment to client service, deep ties and engagement in the community and an eagerness to grow – presented an excellent opportunity to partner.

Brouse McDowell was established in 1919 to serve the legal and business needs of a fast-developing downtown Akron - and the businesses that put the city on the map, including newspapers, rubber and tires as well as the many supporting manufacturing industries in between.

Approaching its centennial in 2019, Brouse continues the long tradition of delivering sophisticated legal counsel to clients that range from sole proprietorships to municipalities, to mid-market businesses to the nation’s largest corporations. Over 75 Brouse attorneys practice in the areas of business restructuring, bankruptcy and commercial; corporate, securities and bonds; environmental; estate, succession planning and probate administration; health care; insurance recovery; intellectual property; labor, employment, benefits, ERISA and workers’ compensation; litigation; oil and gas; real estate and construction; and tax.

A mid-size firm with the talent, diverse experience and national reach of a large firm – Brouse McDowell offers the unwavering service ethic and personal touch of a small firm. Although Brouse frequently guides clients through their most important challenges and opportunities, it manages business in a way that allows the delivery of exceptional value. Brouse McDowell’s commitment to value guides not only rate structure, but staffing practices, use of technology, and every other aspect of the operation.

Brouse McDowell’s dedication to community service is equal to its passion for client service. Brouse lawyers and staff have a rich history as corporate citizens, serving over 150 professional, civic and community organizations throughout the state of Ohio, as board members and volunteers.
